We were thrilled to be chosen by Hollis as the Main Contractor for the industrial refurbishment of Units 22 & 23 on the London Industrial Estate in Beckton.

Their overall objective was to significantly enhance energy efficiency and improve the sustainability of these units, and we approached the project with enthusiasm and drive to deliver our client’s ambitious goals.

Energy efficiency works for Units 22 & 23 Beckton

The work started by removing the previous tenant’s installations with a carefully managed strip-out. We then replaced the existing asbestos roof with a new insulated Kingspan system. This will help both units reduce energy consumption when new tenants occupy the space.

To further improve energy efficiency and increase sustainability, we installed 196 Solarwatt PV panels on the combined roof of both units.

Our team also carried out a full internal refurbishment, including the installation of LED lighting, new shutter doors, double-glazed windows, and fire-rated doors.

These features, in addition to the site power upgrade that we also project managed, have achieved a carbon-neutral net-zero project and a A+ EPC rating, which we’re very proud of.

Managing the risks of industrial refurbishment

Working at height always involves risk, and on this project the original roof that contained asbestos had to be removed presenting several different risks in just this one part of the programme.

To manage this we implemented rigorous working-at-height safety systems and methods that were monitored throughout the project to mitigate risk and ensure the team’s safety. Our highly skilled contractors with proven expertise in this field completed the work, ensuring everything was done safely and to a high standard.

We enjoyed collaborating with Hollis on this project, forging valuable relationships that extend beyond the physical spaces we create.

Our partnership with Hollis has spanned many years, and we are proud to have contributed to the development of many exceptional offices and industrial spaces while also prioritizing sustainability.

The refurbishment of Units 22 & 23 was a real success – not only did we achieve our client’s goals but together we were able to demonstrate our care for the environment with our energy efficiency works.
